It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our partner and friend Gerard James Andree, Esq., on September 4, 2022.
A former member of Sullivan Ward’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors, Mr. Andree was a highly respected trial attorney for more than four decades, remembered most notably for a formidable courtroom presence and superb negotiation skills. He was frequently recognized by his peers in the legal community for legal excellence, including being named a Michigan “Super Lawyer,” and among the “Best Lawyers in America,” as well as having earned the Martindale Hubbell AV Preeminent® distinction.
Mr. Andree was also very active in the church community. A member of St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church, he served in numerous capacities including as president of the parish council. He was also a member of the board of directors and president of the Detroit chapter of Legatus, an organization of Catholic business leaders and executives. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a member of numerous other groups affiliated with the Catholic Church. In 2021, he was awarded the Monsignor Charles Mallory Lifetime Achievement Award by the Catholic Lawyers Society of Metropolitan Detroit for his contributions to the church and the community.
He was a member of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, the Association of Defense Trial Counsel, and the International Association of Defense Counsel. Mr. Andree earned his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law and obtained his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Detroit/University College, Dublin, Ireland.
Mr. Andree is survived by Carolyn, his wife of more than forty years, son John Paul, and daughters Lauren and Kristen.
